Charlie Gendron Honored by New York State Senator Brian A. Benjamin and Lakeview Tenants Association for Service to the Harlem Community

Charlie Gendron of LIHC with Lakeview Tenants Association

New York, NY (August 25, 2018)— Charlie Gendron, principal of LIHC Investment Group, received a proclamation today from New York State Senator Brian A. Benjamin in recognition of his service to the Harlem community and commitment to preserving affordable housing for middle class and working families.

The proclamation goes on to state: “An industry leader of a well-respected family run business, LIHC, Charlie Gendron and his team have become the front-runner in the affordable housing industry and one of the largest property owners in the country, staying true to their roots, empowering impoverished communities in Manhattan, and honoring his commitment to create places people are proud to call home.”

Since 2016, LIHC Investment Group has worked to prevent 446 homes at Lakeview Apartments in East Harlem from converting to market-rate. With the support of local housing agencies and elected officials, the company obtained a new Section 8 Project-Based contract and an Article XI tax abatement earlier this year. As a result, Lakeview Apartments will be maintained as low- to moderate-income housing for at least the next 40 years. In addition, the deal paves the way for millions of dollars in capital improvements to improve residents’ quality of life.
